How much data does Zoom use?
Short answer
A Zoom video call uses roughly 0.5–1.5 GB an hour (up to about 2.5 GB for a 1080p group call), depending on quality and how many people are on screen. Audio only uses about 30–70 MB an hour. Google Meet and Teams are similar.
| Call type | Roughly per hour |
|---|---|
| Audio only | About 30–70 MB |
| 1:1 video, standard quality | About 0.5 GB |
| Video in 720p | About 0.5–1.2 GB |
| Group video in 1080p | Up to about 1.5–2.5 GB |
Estimates are worked out from Zoom’s published bandwidth figures, counting both sending and receiving.
Use less data on calls
- Turn your camera off when you don’t need it.
- Turn off HD video in Zoom’s video settings.
- Use speaker view instead of gallery view.
- Join by phone for audio-only meetings.
